Share of Voice
Your share of category brand mentions in AI answers, relative to competitors rather than in absolute terms.
Share of voice in AI answers is the portion of category brand mentions that belong to you rather than a competitor. Where AI visibility asks how many prompts mention you, share of voice asks a relative question: among the AI responses that mention any brand in your category, how many mention you?
The distinction matters because many prompts are not about brands at all. A prompt that returns a generic explanation with no brand named should not drag down your standing. Share of voice normalises for that by only counting responses where some brand was named, then measuring your slice of them.
Whaily computes share of voice as the responses mentioning your brand divided by the responses mentioning any brand, over the same tracked prompts and models. If ten responses name a brand and four name you, your share of voice is 40 percent even if you track a hundred prompts overall.
Frequently asked questions
- How is share of voice different from AI visibility?
- Visibility is absolute: of all your tracked prompts, how many mention you. Share of voice is relative: of the responses that mention any brand in your category, how many mention you. Share of voice ignores prompts where no brand appears.
- Why would visibility and share of voice differ?
- If many of your prompts return brand-free answers, your visibility can look low while your share of voice is high, because you win most of the responses that do name a brand.
